IndiGo web check-in without paying for seat selection
IndiGo prompts you to pick a seat for a fee during web check-in. Here is the free path:
- 1Start web check-in as normal. Enter PNR and last name.
- 2When the seat map loads, you will see paid seats highlighted. Do not click any of them.
- 3Scroll to the bottom of the seat map. Look for
Skip seat selectionorAssign a seat for me. - 4Click it. IndiGo assigns a free seat (usually middle or back).
- 5Confirm and download your boarding pass.
If you can't find the skip option, try the IndiGo mobile app with the same PNR. The app surfaces the free option more clearly than the website on some devices.
IndiGo web check-in time (when the window opens and closes)
IndiGo is unusual in having a tighter international window. Most airlines open international check-in 48 hours before departure, but IndiGo only opens it 24 hours out. The closing cutoff is also 15 minutes earlier than domestic, so plan to complete check-in well before heading to the airport.
Did you earn BluChip points on this flight?
If your BluChipnumber wasn't in your booking, you can still claim the miles retroactively.

How do I web check-in on IndiGo without paying for seat selection?
On the IndiGo web check-in page, after entering your PNR and last name, look for the option to let IndiGo assign a seat automatically instead of picking one yourself. Scroll past the seat map and confirm without picking a paid seat. IndiGo assigns a random free seat (usually middle or back). If you want a specific seat, you have to pay.
What time does IndiGo web check-in open and close?
For domestic flights, IndiGo web check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 60 minutes before. For international flights, it opens only 24 hours before and closes 75 minutes before. IndiGo is unusual among Indian airlines in having a tighter international window.
What if I can't find the free seat option on IndiGo?
IndiGo intentionally surfaces paid seat selection first during web check-in. Scroll to the bottom of the seat map or look for a link that says 'Skip seat selection' or 'Continue without selecting seat'. If the website hides it, try the IndiGo app which sometimes shows the free option more clearly.
What is IndiGo 'Smart check-in'?
Smart check-in is IndiGo's branding for its contactless web and app check-in experience. You get your boarding pass on WhatsApp, email or the app without queueing at the airport. It is the same thing as web check-in, just with cleaner delivery.
What happens if I skip web check-in on IndiGo entirely?
You check in at the airport counter instead. This guarantees a seat but you lose the ability to pick one and face slower queues. Arrive at least 90 minutes before departure for domestic and 3 hours for international.
Does IndiGo BluChip credit my miles automatically?
Only if your BluChip number is in your booking. If you forgot to add it, you can retro-claim the miles within the eligible window. See the BluChip retro-claim guide linked in the CTA above for the step-by-step process.
Can I web check-in if IndiGo is operating my codeshare flight?
No. IndiGo does not allow web check-in for codeshare flights. If your ticket was issued by a partner airline but operated by IndiGo, check in at the airport counter.
