Top question

How to download your Air India boarding pass

Air India delivers your boarding pass in 3 places after check-in. If one fails, try another.

1. Email from noreply@airindia.com

The primary delivery method. Check spam if it is not in your inbox within 10 minutes of check-in. PDF attachment.

2. SMS with a download link

Sent to the phone number on the booking. Tap the link to download. Links typically expire after 24 hours of flight departure.

3. Air India mobile app under My Trips

The most reliable fallback. Log in with your PNR and last name. Save the pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for offline access.

If the SMS link has expired, log back into the Air India website with your PNR. The boarding pass regenerates automatically.

Flying IX?

Air India Express uses a separate portal

If your flight number starts with IX, you are on Air India Express, which runs its own check-in portal. Both earn Maharaja Club miles, but the PNR only works on one side.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I download my Air India boarding pass after web check-in?

Air India typically delivers your boarding pass through email from noreply@airindia.com, an SMS with a download link to the phone number on your booking, and inside the Air India mobile app under 'My Trips'. If one method fails, try another. Save the pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for offline access.

My Air India boarding pass download link has expired. What do I do?

Log back into the Air India website or app with your PNR and last name. The boarding pass regenerates automatically. You can also visit the check-in counter at the airport as a fallback.

Is Air India Express web check-in different from Air India?

Yes. Air India Express uses a separate check-in portal at airindiaexpress.com. The timing window is similar to Air India mainline (48 hours before down to an hour for domestic, 2 hours for international) but your PNR will only work on the Express site, not the Air India mainline site. IX flight numbers are Express, AI flight numbers are mainline.

When does Air India web check-in open and close?

Air India web check-in opens 48 hours before departure for both domestic and international flights. It closes 60 minutes before domestic and 2 hours before international. You will get a printable boarding card for domestic and a confirmation slip for international.

I forgot to add my Maharaja Club number to the booking. Can I still get miles?

Yes. Air India allows retro-claim for missing miles after the flight. See the Air India retro-claim guide linked in the CTA above for the step-by-step process, and check our MagMiles to Maharaja Club transfer guide for how to top up your balance after the claim.

Can I web check-in for Air India codeshare flights?

No. Air India does not support web check-in for codeshare flights. You will receive the instruction to check in at the airport counter with the operating airline (often Star Alliance partners like United, Lufthansa, or Singapore Airlines).

What's the difference between Maharaja Club and Flying Returns?

Flying Returns was Air India's legacy frequent flyer program. After the Tata takeover, it was rebranded to Maharaja Club. Existing Flying Returns members were migrated. If you have an old Flying Returns number, it now works as your Maharaja Club membership.
