Every Airline You Can Transfer Marriott Bonvoy Points To (Complete List)

Marriott Bonvoy Airline Transfer Partners

Marriott Bonvoy has 39 airline transfer partners. That's more than any other hotel loyalty program.

The standard ratio is 3:1 across the board. 3,000 Bonvoy points become 1,000 airline miles. Simple enough. But there's a transfer bonus on top of that for most partners, and a few exceptions you should know about before you hit the transfer button.

How Marriott Airline Transfers Work

The rules:

  • Ratio: 3:1 for all partners (except Air New Zealand)
  • Minimum transfer: 3,000 points
  • Maximum per transaction: 240,000 points
  • Must transfer in multiples of 1,000
  • Transfers are one-way (you can't send miles back to Marriott)

So 30,000 Bonvoy points become 10,000 airline miles, 60,000 become 20,000, and so on. Straightforward. But the transfer bonus is where things get interesting.

The Transfer Bonus: 5,000 Extra Miles per 60,000

For every 60,000 Bonvoy points you transfer in a single transaction, Marriott adds 5,000 bonus miles. So 60,000 points don't give you 20,000 miles. They give you 25,000.

That brings the effective ratio from 3:1 down to 2.4:1.

240,00080,00020,000100,0002.4:1

The bonus only triggers at 60,000-point thresholds. Transfer 59,000 and you get zero bonus. Transfer 60,000 and you suddenly have 5,000 extra miles. Always try to transfer in multiples of 60,000.

Exceptions to the 5,000 Bonus

Not every partner gets this bonus. Three airlines are excluded entirely, and one gets more.

No bonus at all:

  • American Airlines (AAdvantage) — 60,000 points = 20,000 miles, no bonus
  • Delta (SkyMiles) — 60,000 points = 20,000 miles, no bonus
  • Avianca (LifeMiles) — 60,000 points = 20,000 miles, no bonus

These three lost their transfer bonus in October 2022. You still get the standard 3:1 ratio, but the bonus miles don't apply.

Double bonus (United):

  • United Airlines (MileagePlus) — 60,000 points = 20,000 + 10,000 bonus = 30,000 miles

United gets 10,000 bonus miles instead of the standard 5,000. That makes the effective ratio 2:1, which is the best conversion you can get from Marriott to any airline.

Air New Zealand (different system entirely):

Air New Zealand's Airpoints program uses a dollar-based currency, not miles. The transfer ratio is 200:1 (200 Bonvoy points = 1 Airpoints Dollar). For transfers of 60,000+ points, you get 75 bonus Airpoints Dollars instead of the base 300. So 60,000 Bonvoy = 375 Airpoints Dollars. The percentage bonus works out the same (25%), just in a different currency.

How to Earn Marriott Bonvoy Points in India

Hotel stays are the obvious one. India has hundreds of Marriott properties across all price ranges, and you earn points on every stay based on your rate and elite status.

HDFC Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card earns Bonvoy points directly on every swipe. The annual free night certificate is a bonus, and regular card activity keeps your Marriott points from expiring.

Credit card transfers from multiple Indian banks work too. Amex transfers at 1:1, HDFC and Axis at varying ratios depending on your card. For Axis Bank cardholders, Marriott falls under Group A (the one with stricter annual caps), so plan your transfers accordingly.

For the full list of cards that transfer to Marriott with current ratios, check the Magnify app.

Transfer Rules to Keep in Mind

Always transfer in multiples of 60,000 if you want the bonus. Transferring 59,000 gives you no bonus at all. 60,000 gets you 5,000 extra miles (or 10,000 for United).

Check for promotional bonuses. Marriott occasionally runs limited-time transfer bonuses with specific airlines, sometimes 15-30% on top of the standard rates. These can make the effective ratio much better.

Transfers are irreversible. Once you send points to an airline, they can't come back. Make sure you have a specific use in mind before transferring, not just a vague plan to "save them as miles."

Compare with direct bank transfers. If your credit card can transfer directly to an airline program at 1:1 or better, that's almost always a better deal than going through Marriott at 3:1. Marriott transfers are most useful when the airline program isn't available as a direct bank partner, or when you need a top-up to reach a specific redemption.

Points expire after 24 months of account inactivity. Earning or redeeming (including airline transfers) resets the clock.

You can also transfer Bonvoy points to other members for free, which is useful for pooling points toward a larger airline transfer that hits the 60,000 threshold.
