How to Transfer Points Between SAS EuroBonus and Scandic Friends
SAS EuroBonus and Scandic Friends let you move points freely between the two programs at a 1:2 ratio. No minimum, no fee, and it processes in minutes.
SAS EuroBonus and Scandic Friends have one of the more generous point transfer partnerships in the loyalty world. You can move points in either direction, there's no transfer fee, no minimum amount, and it processes in minutes. The ratio is a clean 1:2.
1 EuroBonus point = 2 Scandic Friends points. And 2 Scandic Friends points = 1 EuroBonus point.
If you're building up either program, or if you have points sitting in one that would be more useful in the other, this is worth understanding. You can also earn SAS EuroBonus points through Mag Miles on the Magnify app, which means your everyday spending can flow into Scandic hotel stays, and vice versa.
How to Link Your Accounts
Before you can transfer anything, you need to link your SAS EuroBonus and Scandic Friends accounts. Here's what's required:
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Membership | Must be a member of both programs |
| Account age | At least 30 days in one of the two programs |
| Account status | Both accounts must be active |
| Details match | Name and other membership details must match |
| Limit | Each EuroBonus account links to one Scandic Friends account only |
| Age | Must be 18+ |
Link your accounts at scandichotels.com/sas-x-scandic/link. You can unlink later through SAS EuroBonus My Pages if needed.
The Transfer Details
| EuroBonus → Scandic Friends | Scandic Friends → EuroBonus | |
|---|---|---|
| Ratio | 1 EB point = 2 SF points | 2 SF points = 1 EB point |
| Cost | Free | Free |
| Minimum | None | None (only even numbers) |
| Maximum | None | None |
| Processing | A few minutes | A few minutes |
| Reversible | No, but you can transfer back | No, but you can transfer back |
| Constraint | Only Bonus points (not Level points) | Only even numbers of SF points |
Individual transfers are irreversible, but since you can freely transfer in both directions at no cost, you can effectively move points back if you change your mind.
What Happens to Point Expiry
This is the tricky part, and it's worth understanding before you transfer.
SAS EuroBonus points are valid for 4-5 years after earning. That's pretty generous. Diamond members have no expiry at all.
Scandic Friends points expire 3 years from the month they were earned. Shorter, but still reasonable.
When you transfer between the two, Scandic uses a first-in-first-out approach, meaning points closest to expiry get transferred first. The expiry rules on the receiving end depend on how much time was left:
If the transferred points had less than 12 months left before expiry, they keep their original expiry date in the new program.
If they had more than 12 months left, the expiry gets reduced to 12 months from the transfer date.
And there's one exception to know about: if you're a SAS EuroBonus Diamond member (where points don't expire), those points will get a 12-month expiry when transferred to Scandic Friends. The no-expiry perk doesn't carry over.
So the general rule: don't transfer points and then sit on them. Have a plan for using them.
When Does Transferring Make Sense?
EuroBonus → Scandic Friends makes sense when you have a Scandic stay coming up and want to use points for a reward night or pay for food and drinks at the hotel. Reward nights at Scandic range from 10,000 to 80,000 points, with most city hotels in the 20,000-30,000 range. At the 1:2 conversion, that's 10,000-15,000 EuroBonus points for a free night.
Scandic Friends → EuroBonus makes sense when you have Scandic points you're unlikely to use on hotel stays, and you'd rather have airline miles for SkyTeam flights. 20,000 SF points become 10,000 EuroBonus points, which could contribute toward a flight redemption.
It also works as a safety valve for expiring points. If your Scandic points are about to expire and you don't have a hotel stay planned, convert them to EuroBonus where they'll get a fresh expiry window (though capped at 12 months if the original expiry was over 12 months away).
Status Matching
Beyond point transfers, linking your accounts also enables status matching. If you've earned Level 4 (Dear Friend) or above in Scandic Friends, you automatically get the corresponding SAS EuroBonus tier. And it works the other way too.
