Enrolling Your Kids in Air India Maharaja Club: The Complete Guide

Kids aged 2 and above can join Maharaja Club and earn miles on every flight. Here's how to set it up, what they get, and what happens when they turn 18.

Enrolling kids in Maharaja Club guide

If your family flies Air India even a couple of times a year, your kids are leaving miles on the table. Every time they board a flight and those points don't get credited anywhere, that's value disappearing into thin air.

Maharaja Club lets you enrol children as young as 2, and they earn points on every flight just like adults do. Over years of family travel, those points add up to real award flights.

Here's everything you need to know about setting up a minor account.

Who Can Enrol?

Any child aged 2 to 17 on the date of enrolment is eligible. There's no nationality or residency restriction. Whether you're based in India, the US, or anywhere else, your child can join as long as they meet the age requirement.

Children under 2 (infants) aren't eligible. Once they turn 2, you can sign them up right away.

How to Enrol Your Child

A parent or guardian with their own Maharaja Club account creates the minor's account. You can't sign up a child independently. Here's the process:

  1. Log in to your own Maharaja Club account on airindia.com
  2. Go to your profile and look for the option to add a minor member
  3. Fill in your child's details (name, date of birth, etc.)
  4. Provide a unique email address for the child. This is important: each child needs a different email, and it can't be the same one you used for your own account
  5. Complete the enrolment

You can add up to 4 minor accounts under your Maharaja Club profile. If you have more than 4 kids, the additional ones would need to be linked to another guardian's account.

Enrolment is completely free. No joining fee, no annual charges.

What Your Kids Get

This is the good part. Minors get the full Maharaja Club experience, not some stripped-down version of it.

Same earning rates as adults. Your child earns Maharaja Points and Tier Points at the same rates as any adult member based on their tier. A Red tier minor earns 6 MP per INR 100 spent, plus the 2 MP bonus for direct bookings on airindia.com.

Star Alliance earning. If your child flies on any Star Alliance partner (Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, etc.) and you credit those flights to their Maharaja Club account, they'll earn points there too.

Award flight redemption. Points in your child's account can be redeemed for award flights, just like an adult account.

Tier qualification. If your child flies enough to earn Silver, Gold, or Platinum status, they absolutely can. This is unlikely for most kids, but it's technically possible.

1,000 welcome bonus. After their first Air India flight (not an award ticket), your child gets 1,000 bonus Maharaja Points. Same as adults.

The one thing minors don't get: welcome kits. That's the only exclusion.

Managing Your Child's Account

As the guardian, you manage the account until your child turns 18. You can update profile details, check balances, and handle any account-related tasks.

To log in to your child's account, use their registered email address. An OTP gets sent to that email, so make sure you have access to whatever inbox you used during enrolment. This is why it's practical to set up email addresses you control (like a Gmail alias or a family email) for younger kids.

The Age 18 Transition (Don't Miss This)

This is the most important thing in this entire guide, and the part most parents overlook.

When your child turns 18, they must provide consent to continue as an independent Maharaja Club member. This isn't optional. Air India requires it.

If your child doesn't provide consent after turning 18, Air India can deactivate the account and forfeit all accumulated points. Years of earned miles, gone.

The consent process is straightforward. Your child logs in at airindia.com/in/en/maharaja-club/sign-up and completes the required steps.

Set a calendar reminder for when your child approaches their 18th birthday. Don't let this slip through the cracks.

Family Pool: Combine Points for Bigger Redemptions

Once your child has a Maharaja Club account, they can be added to your Family Pool. This lets you combine points from the whole family into one account, making it much easier to save up for award flights.

The Family Head (typically a parent) controls all pooled points and handles redemptions. So if your kid has 5,000 points and your spouse has 8,000 and you have 12,000, you can pool all 25,000 together instead of having three accounts that individually can't do much.

Earn Points for the Whole Family Through Magnify

Flying isn't the only way to build up Maharaja Points. Mag Miles transfer to Maharaja Club at 1:1, and you earn Mag Miles on everyday spending through the Magnify app. Gift cards from Amazon, Swiggy, Uber, Myntra, and more, all earning miles that can go straight into any family member's Maharaja Club account.

Between flights and Mag Miles, you can build up enough for a family award trip faster than you'd expect.

Check current transfer rates and partners on the Magnify app.
