KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes: 30% Off Singapore Airlines Award Flights

Singapore Airlines discounts award flights by 30% every month. Here's how it works and how to book from India.

Every month, Singapore Airlines quietly discounts award flights by 30%.

It's called KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes, and it's one of the better ways to get value from your KrisFlyer miles if you can be flexible with travel dates.

What is Spontaneous Escapes?

Around the 15th of each month, Singapore Airlines releases a list of routes where you can redeem KrisFlyer miles at 30% off the standard Saver rate. The discounts apply to Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class on select routes.

These are last-minute deals, though. You typically get about two weeks to book, and travel has to happen the following month.

For example, routes announced on January 15th would be for travel in February, with a booking deadline of January 31st.

How Much Can You Save?

Let's look at some typical India routes:

Business Class (one-way from Singapore):

  • Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad: 31,500 miles (vs 45,000 regular)
  • That's 13,500 miles saved per flight

Economy Class (one-way from Singapore):

  • Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Kochi, Hyderabad: 13,300 miles (vs 19,000 regular)
  • Savings of about 5,700 miles
Singapore to Bengaluru - Economy Promo - 13300 Miles
Singapore to Bengaluru - Economy Promo - 13300 Miles

These aren't hypothetical numbers. India routes regularly show up in Spontaneous Escapes, though availability varies month to month.

The Fine Print

Before you get excited, there are some strict rules:

Non-refundable and non-changeable. Once you book a Spontaneous Escapes award, you can't cancel it or change the dates. If your plans change, you lose the miles. This is the biggest trade-off for the 30% discount.

No waitlisting. You either see availability or you don't. If the "Promo" fare doesn't show up, it means there's no discounted inventory left.

Singapore Airlines flights only. This doesn't work for Star Alliance partner bookings or codeshare flights.

Book online only. You have to book through singaporeair.com or the SingaporeAir app. Phone bookings and travel agents can't access these fares.

No stopovers. Unlike regular KrisFlyer awards, you can't add a Singapore stopover to Spontaneous Escapes bookings.

Check Current and Past Routes

We track every Spontaneous Escapes promotion on Magnify. You can see which routes are available this month, plus historical data from past months to spot patterns.

India routes like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad show up regularly, so if you miss this month, there's a good chance they'll be back.

How to Book

  1. Check which routes are on offer this month at magnify.club/singapore-airlines-spontaneous-escapes
  2. Go to singaporeair.com and log into your KrisFlyer account
  3. Search for flights on your preferred dates
  4. Look for the "Promo" award category alongside Saver, Advantage, and Full awards
  5. If Promo shows up, that's the Spontaneous Escapes rate
  6. Book and pay with miles (plus taxes)

If you don't see the Promo option, it means either that route isn't part of this month's promotion, or the discounted seats are sold out.

How to Get KrisFlyer Miles in India

KrisFlyer is a transfer partner for several Indian credit card programs. If you have an HDFC Infinia or Diners Black, for example, you can transfer points to KrisFlyer at a 1:1 ratio through the Net Banking portal (not SmartBuy).

Other cards from Axis, Amex, and HSBC also transfer to KrisFlyer. To see which of your cards can get you KrisFlyer miles, check the Magnify app: magnify.club/app?p=krisflyer-spontaneous-escapes

If you have an HDFC card with the Global Value Program, you're already earning points that can become KrisFlyer miles.

When It Makes Sense

If you can be flexible with dates and are okay with non-refundable tickets, Spontaneous Escapes is a great deal.

30% off is significant. A Business Class flight that would normally cost 45,000 miles dropping to 31,500 miles is real savings, especially on longer routes.

But if you need flexibility, or if you're not 100% sure about your travel dates, stick with regular Saver awards. The ability to cancel and get your miles back (minus a small fee) is worth more than the 30% discount for most people.
