HDFC Infinia SmartBuy: 5x Rewards Are Staying
HDFC reversed the SmartBuy devaluation before it even went live. Infinia stays at 5x on gift vouchers.
Quick update on the HDFC SmartBuy situation.
Last week, HDFC announced they were cutting Infinia rewards on SmartBuy gift vouchers from 5x to 3x, effective January 16.
That's not happening anymore.
What Happened
On January 14, a day before the change was supposed to go live, HDFC posted a banner on the SmartBuy portal saying the 5x multiplier is staying. There was no email or press release, just the banner.
We wrote about the original devaluation when the updated T&Cs appeared on their website. A lot of people weren't happy about it, and the news spread across Twitter, Reddit, and credit card forums.
Whether HDFC saw the backlash and changed their mind, or it was an error in the first place, we don't know since they haven't said anything publicly.
What This Means
If you have an Infinia, nothing changes. SmartBuy gift vouchers stay at 5x, which is 25 points per ₹150 (a 16.67% return). Keep buying vouchers like before.
